What is an accessorial code?

An accessorial code identifies an additional service on an LTL shipment beyond simple dock-to-dock transport, such as a liftgate, an inside delivery, or a residential address. Each carrier defines its own codes, so the same service is spelled differently at every carrier you integrate with.

Why does the same accessorial code mean different things at different carriers?

Carriers publish their code lists independently, so collisions happen. LIFD is liftgate delivery at both TForce Freight and GLS, and RESP is residential pickup at several carriers. A code is only meaningful together with the carrier it belongs to, which is why this lookup always shows both.

Do all carriers use accessorial codes?

No. Some carriers model additional services as request fields rather than codes. C.H. Robinson uses boolean flags, Flock Freight uses typed booleans and counts, and Pilot uses Y/N flags with hour counts. Those carriers still support the services, there is simply no code to send.

Is the accessorial code lookup free?

Yes. The lookup pages are free with no signup, and the same data is available through the /api/accessorials REST endpoint on every plan including the Free tier.

Requesting a liftgate delivery means sending LGD to AAA Cooper, LIFD to TForce, LGDEL to TQL, and Acc_GRD_DEL to ABF. Each carrier publishes its own list, and none of them publishes anyone else's.
