AIT tracking - FAQ

What is an AIT tracking number?

It is the number AIT Worldwide Logistics assigns to a shipment when it is booked, usually 7 or 8 digits. You will find it on the shipping label, on the bill of lading and in AIT's shipment notification emails and text messages.

Can I track an AIT shipment without the tracking number?

Yes. Choose "Shipper reference number" or "Purchase Order number" as the reference type and enter that number. One reference can match several shipments; each one is shown separately.

Why is my AIT tracking number not found?

The most common reasons are a typo, a shipment booked so recently that AIT has not received its details yet, or a number that belongs to another carrier. Check the number and try again a little later, or search by your shipper reference or PO number.

What does "Checked into delivery terminal" mean?

The shipment has arrived at the local AIT terminal that will deliver it. AIT's own note on this status says all residential deliveries need an appointment, and a home delivery specialist calls the recipient within the next 2-3 business days to arrange it.

How do AIT delivery appointments work?

For home deliveries AIT contacts the recipient by email, text message or phone call to schedule a time. The status history shows each attempt ("Email sent", "Call placed to consignee") and then "Appointment delivery scheduled" once a time is set.

Why does AIT tracking show different time zones?

Each status is recorded in the local time of the AIT location that scanned it, so one shipment can show PST at pickup, CST at a hub and EST at delivery. The time zone is listed next to every event.

What does an AIT exception mean?

An exception means something stopped the normal delivery. AIT reports one of six reasons: cancelled, lost, refused, disposed, no freight or other. The exception appears on the event where it happened.

Is this AIT tracking tool free?

Yes. Tracking is free and needs no account or sign-up. Shipper and recipient names, addresses and phone numbers are not shown.
